Can I Apply For Unemployment If I Am Laid Off Due To the Coronavirus Pandemic?

I’ve gotten a few questions regarding Unemployment Insurance and how that works, especially during this Coronavirus scare. First off, Unemployment is a benefit through the Employment Development Department or EDD. Essentially, there has been money that’s paid into that account while you’re working. This is the same account that pays SDI or Paid Family Leave Act. So essentially, when your employer lets you go or lays you off, and it’s without good cause, which is going to be happening a lot during these economic downturn, then essentially the person who is laid off can go in and collect Unemployment Benefits through EDD. So once again, that’s different than SDI which is disability, and that’s different than Paid Family Leave Act, which is when you’re taking care of a family member or a loved one. This is when the employer lays you off or lets you go without good cause.
